Alumni Board President, Welcome Letter

As we close our first day of school, read the welcome letter from Alumni Board President, Peter Brown.
Wheeler's 133 First Day of School
Wheeler's 133 First Day of School

Dear fellow alumnae/i,

Wheeler has just begun its 133 school year. Whether this is your first year as an alumna/us or your 80th, there is a lot to look forward to, with events and opportunities to connect with the school, your classmates, and former teachers.

As a longtime volunteer now living three blocks from 216 Hope Street, I have personally watched the evolution of the Providence and Farm campuses, including new buildings and updates to existing features. Even with some changes, the familiar front gates will still transport students to a life-changing educational experience. If you have not visited, I urge you to attend Homecoming & Reunion October 15-17. During our events this year, we will toast Aerie Director Mark Harris as he celebrates his 50th year at Wheeler and bid farewell to Jon Green, Director of Hamilton School, who ends his three-decade tenure at the close of the 2022 school year.

There is a lot going on in the world, from the ongoing global pandemic to the important reckoning of racial justice and inequality to the looming impacts of environmental change. Conversations and forward planning surrounding these issues and more make me proud to be a Wheeler alumnus, where our school is leading the way for education in 2021. Our school motto, “To learn our powers and be answerable for their use” (adopted in 2018), is more important than ever. Wheeler alumni and students will be at the center of solving the problems of today and tomorrow.

Please find time to connect with Wheeler and your classmates through our new website, The Wheel; I myself look forward to connecting virtually or in-person with our alumnae/i community over the next 2 years of my term as president. Please reach out if there is something we should start, stop, or continue to make your experience as an alumnus more valuable.

Sincerely,

Peter Brown, ‘03

President, Wheeler Alumni Board
