Erica Dabanka ’22: a Face of Student Support

Support for students come from the Wheeler alumni community

Wheeler alumna Erica Dabanka ’22 was recently back on our Providence campus to meet with Cyra Kunk ’27 for a mentoring session. They've been paired up through the Student Support Program, which is an initiative of our Office of Unity & Diversity to encourage, assist, and celebrate traditionally underrepresented students in independent school communities and on college campuses. As part of the mentoring aspect of the program, recent Wheeler alumni get connected to current students and provide them with one-on-one support.

“Regularly meeting with Cyra via Facetime during my sophomore year at Stonehill College has been a blast!' shared Erica. "Being her mentor has given me the chance not only to get to know her as an individual but also to stay connected to Wheeler. Even though we had never met in person, our recent lunch date felt perfectly seamless. We truly picked up where we left off. I'm thrilled to see her development over the years!"

As a mentee, Cyra said the supportive relationship has allowed her to talk to someone who understands what it’s like being a student at Wheeler through Upper School and can share helpful advice.
